WHAT IS AN N.I.E. NUMBER?
The NIE number (Foreigners’ Identification Number) is the tax identification number required in Spain (including the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands) for almost all professional and social financial matters. It’s assigned once and for life. You’ll need it to buy property, sign an employment contract, set up a business, or open a bank account.
HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT IN SPAIN?
The first step is to book an APPOINTMENT IN ADVANCE (meeting/visit). You can do it via this link: https://icp.administracionelectronica.gob.es/icpplus/index.html. You can also use Google to automatically translate the page into Polish. The meeting literally lasts a few minutes and takes place at the police station you choose when booking the appointment. Here, you’ll need to be patient. Many people apply for an NIE number, and there are few available appointments. HOW TO GET AN NIE NUMBER IN POLAND?
The second option is to obtain an NIE number through the Spanish embassy in Poland. In this case, you need to attend in person at the Consular Department. However, it’s important to note that to obtain an NIE number in Poland, you must provide a documented reason (for example, a reservation contract for the purchase of a property in Spain or an employment contract). The waiting period is usually up to 4 weeks, and a COPY of the number is sent by email.
To receive the original of your NIE number, you will need to book another appointment at the police station in Spain and pick up the original document there.
